On the mend

I took the day off work yesterday so that Gary and I could go down to Hamilton and visit with my father. I admit that I went down there expecting the worst. My sister called me yesterday, crying, saying that our father had lost all hope, was still hallucinating and was waiting to die. They also had to use the defibrillator on him several times because he tried to walk around his room and his heart was racing out of control.

I don’t even have the words to express how happy Gary and I were when we got there yesterday to find him so much better. He looked tired, and worn out. He was slightly grouchy but best of all he was talking! He engaged us in conversations about Pandora, Houdini and magic. He talked about doing his lecture and he remembers hallucinating, telling us that he had visited a two dimensional geometric world where everything was neutral. I told him I was glad he decided to come back.

I think the fact that most of my mom’s family came to visit with him yesterday evening really gave him a boost. He needed to be reminded that he wasn’t alone and that we weren’t going to stop fighting for him. He’s still depressed that he’ll likely be in the hospital for another week but at least I can come down more often to visit with him more often once my vacation starts.

There are a million things my sisters and I still need to figure out before he gets released but I’m just happy he’s on the mend.

Aww I am glad he’s feeling better. Is he at Mac? No matter where he is they should take good care of him. We are wishing him a speedy recovery.
