The Halloween Parties are starting

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

It’s October and it’s my absolute favourite time of the year. This makes me a very happy girl. Seriously what’s not to love about October. The leaves turn, the sweaters come out, gorgeous coloured scarves and of course…it’s the time of ghouls and monsters.

We’ve been blessed with some pretty amazing warm weather last weekend and we took full advantage of it. We started off by hitting up Canada’s Wonderland’s Halloween Haunt on Friday night. We went with the rest of the Rue Crew and got to have a little meet and greet with the organizers of the event. We went last year and while it was good, they really outdid themselves this year with the Haunted Houses and all out ghoul atmosphere of the park. If you get a chance I’d highly recommend going. The line ups were non-existent, the people were amazingly cool and overall it was a great way to kick off the long weekend.

We’re going again in a couple of weeks for an engagement party so I’ll be taking some more photos but I did take some (ok quite a bit) of photos during our excursion on Friday. So I figured I would share them with you.

Night of the Creeps

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

Thursday night at Rue Morgue’s Cinemacabre they presented Night of the Creeps and had Director Fred Dekker on hand to introduce the film, and participate in a Q&A session, hosted by Michael Felsher, afterwards. A nice surprise was when Steve Marshall, who lives in Toronto, showed up for the screening and was called on stage to surprise Fred.

After a bit of banter the movie started and as someone who has never seen the movie before, let me tell you it was fantastic. A huge part of it being so much fun was that the audience was totally into it. I was able to record some of the Q&A and played with Windows Movie Maker today to put together a little clip. It’s about 7 minutes long and I haven’t quite figured out the setting to export a better quality video that isn’t huge but I think you’ll get the gist.

The rest of the pictures can be found here: Night of the Creeps

And for those of you who are curious about the alternate ending that Fred Dekker talks about during his Q&A I was able to find it on YouTube.

Enjoy!

Life has been good

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

I know I’ve been quiet for a while now but that’s a good thing because it means life….is pretty damn awesome.

Gary and I just wrapped up the Festival of Fear (pictures will be coming this weekend I hope), my sister is moving in next door, my Mom is having a milestone birthday and I got a promotion at work.

Top that off with my always present amazing friends, living with the love of my life Gary, and having my sweet puppy Pandora, I could not be a happier girl.

I’m even wrapping up some projects at work so that mens I’ll be able to spend some time working on the various projects I’m supposed to be doing.   I’m about a month behind on my blog reading but I plan on catching up on that fairly soon so be expecting some random comments from me on old posts.

As promised - Our Montreal Trip

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

I’ve finally finished processing and resizing the pictures from Montreal and thought I’d do a little day by day run down of our time there. We walked a lot. We laughed all the time and overall we had an absolutely restful few days in a city we both love. I’ve put the rest of the entry behind a cut since there are quite a few pictures.

This weekend rocked

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

I have to say that this weekend has been one of the best weekends I’ve had in a very long time. Saturday morning I woke up early in order to get ready to meet…wait for it…Clive Barker! He was in Toronto to give a speech at Stephen King’s lifetime achievement award ceremony in Canada on Friday night. He decided to drop by the Rue Morgue House of Horrors Saturday morning and, because I’m a lucky girl, I got a chance to meet him.

Unfortunately we were not able to spend a lot of time with him since most of it was taken up to do some TV interviews but when he was done he was gracious enough to not only sign my first edition copy of The Thief of Always but to also draw a sketch on the title page. Below are some of the pictures Gary and I took of his visit.

A lot more happened after the Clive Barker signing, including a wicked birthday party and a great afternoon at a friend’s house that resulted in me with straight hair. It’s very strange having straight hair even if it is just for a day. I promise that I’ll be posting more pictures about later but right now I need to hit the sack. Lots of laughter, sun and good friends has completely exhausted me.

Revamp, tagging and The Abattoir

Friday, January 5th, 2007

For whatever reason, whenever I’m in the process of redoing my website I stop posting. I’m not exactly certain why I do this but it happens. I’m pretty excited about the design and if/when I ever finish and implement it I’ll likely be creating a nice long and detailed post about why I did things a certain way. One of the things that I may be doing away with is the Photo Galleries and just having a daily photo on my site. I’ll likely post the photo galleries onto flickr instead. It will give me more exposure and also allow other people to easily find the photos.

I just need to learn to love tagging…be one with tagging… tagging is my friend.

I still hate tagging, it drives me nuts! I need more structure…I weep when I look at my del.icio,us account because with all the tags I actually find it harder to find things at times.

Egad! I didn’t mean to start rambling about that, in fact I had a whole other reason for my entry, but now I’ve gone and forgotten.

Oh well, in other news, Rue Morgue just launched their new Blog called “The Abattoir” that I coded. If it breaks, let me know and I’ll fix it.

The good and the bad

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

Last night was Rue Morgue’s Halloween Party and it was a great time. I took a lot of fabulous pictures only to wake up and find that my SD card is corrupt and can’t be read, I googled, tried all the tips and tricks and…nothing. So, unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of my awesome Halloween costume, or anyone else’s awesome costumes either. This makes me incredibly sad. I’m hoping that some friends (I’m looking at you Kat) have some shots of at least Gary and I, even if we’re not together. If you do, I would love to get a high res version of them so I can get them printed.

Anyway, I ended up running out and getting another card for our trip to NYC tomorrow. We have the airport limo coming at 8:00 am once Gary finishes his annual Halloween radio spot at 7:30am. I think I have everything I need packed and ready to go!! This trip is going to be awesome, I can’t wait. The only sad part is that I’m going to miss Pandora. My sisters took her back home with them tonight and I already miss her little snuggles. I’m so whiped by my dog.

I’ll be back on Wednesday night, so stay tuned for some pictures of NYC and Gary’s Living Dead Doll.

Canada’s Wonderland Fearfest

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

Last night, I went along with the Rue Crew for the opening night of Canada’s Wonderland Fearfest. This was the second year of the park holding a Halloween themed event and Gary and I were quite pissed off that we didn’t get to go last year. What can I say other then it was really cool and I actually took some ok pictures considering my novice photographer status. (more…)

Festival of Fear: Pictures from Saturday, Saturday Night and Sunday

Saturday, September 9th, 2006

Beneath the cut are some of my favourites from the rest of the Festival of Fear pictures I just uploaded today. I’ve cut it to save bandwidth or if you have no desire to even have them grace the presence of your screen.
