Bloc Party

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

Back in 2005, Gary introduced me to the Bloc Party and their album “Silent Alarm”. I instantly fell in love with the album. It made me want to dance, smile and brought me back to my early University days when Oasis and Blur were big. So, when their second album “A Weekend In The City” came out I was expecting them to continue charming me.

I wasn’t disappointed.

“A Weekend In The City” is a much more sombre album than Silent Alarm and after listening to it a few times, “The Prayer” has managed to worm its way up into my heart.

For those of you who are new to Bloc Party I’m going to share with you two of my favourite songs thrown behind a cut tag for those of you on LiveJournal.

Blue October Pictures

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Well, I finally got off my ass and cropped the Blue October pictures I took when Terra and I went to go and see Blue October at the Opera House in January this year. Most of them are pretty blurry but still decent considering how far back we were from the stage. I have to say, this was probably one of the best concerts I’ve ever been too. The energy the band gave off was simply amazing and the fact that they actually respected their fans was obvious. It also helps that I have a wee bit of a crush on Justin Furstenfeld. What’s a girl to do, especially when he looks a bit like her own handsome man?

Anyway, here are some of my favourites. You can check out the whole album here: Blue October - The Kool Haus, Toronto, January 30th, 2007.

Happiness as a ringtone

The Matrix aka My Old Cell Phone ScreenInstead of having my own cell phone, my company provides me with one.  It’s one of the many perks I get for working for “The Most Awesome Company Ever”.

For the last year and a half the phone that they gave us weighed about 5lbs and was as thick as my fat fingers.   Ok, maybe it wasn’t that thick but it was a clunker.  It was black and had a green display that was very reminiscent of The Matrix .  It did not have any colours and the screen was about the size of a piece of stick of Juicy Fruit Gum.

I called it my “Batman” phone because it had some cool little black ridges on it.  But it was free.  And well free is not just good, it’s awesome. I happily used that phone and still gave it love when it would only hold a charge for six hours in standby mode.

Then our Office Manager declared that it was time for a new plan and…new phones!  It was like Christmas.  Emails flying around debating the pros and cons for each phone available to us.  I ended up chosing the Razr V3 because I’m shallow and really liked the way the phone looked.  Besides it was a flip phone and I’m big on flip phones.

I’ve had my Razr for a few months now and still don’t know and don’t really care about all the little things it can do except for the fact that I can put my own ringtones on it.  With the help of a friend at work, I now have The Addams Family as my ringtone and it makes me grin like an idiot every time I hear it.

It takes so little to make me happy.

Zombies ate her brain

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

I recently picked up The Creepshow CD and I have to admit it’s catchy enough to keep me bouncing while I work away. In case you don’t want to go to their myspace page to listen to some of their tunes, I thought I would share with you one of my favourites at the moment. It’s short but fun.

I present to you Zombies Ate Her Brain.

(Put behind a cut in case the audio doesn’t work on LiveJournal or the RSS feed)

The Creepshow

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

We went and saw The Creepshow on St. Patrick’s day in London and they always put on a great show. If you live in Toronto you should check them out at the Bovine tonight. You can also drool over the three new t-shirt designs that Gary did for them for their European tour.

My personal favourite is the zombie hand holding the creepy microphone.

I won’t be there tonight because I can no longer walk due to a hockey stick in the ankle at last night’s floor hockey game.

Whirlpool of deadlines

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

I’ve been caught in a whirlpool of deadlines lately and I’m afraid that I’m not going to stay afloat.

I have several deadlines looming at work, Gary’s website to finish, my Halloween costume to finish, planning for our trip to New York, plus the usual laundry and friends and family to call that I’ve been neglecting. These are all due before the end of the month or sooner.

I’ve been meaning to update

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

But I’m not quite sure where to start. Last weekend was what I am now dubbing…blast from the past. It was completely filled with people from my old “Fever” aka clubbing days. I was going to write a nice long entry about it but I’m tired. I’ll make a nice long post this weekend with pictures.

I’ll leave you with this little tidbit…my right foot is half a size smaller then my left. Who knew?

Waiting for the boys

Friday, September 1st, 2006

Well Rancid was canceled tonight so we are just going to be heading over to the industry party which I’m actually OK with, I just wasn’t up to a concert tonight and this means I’ll be able to bring my camera to the party! Muhahaha.

Checklist to prepare for tonight:

  • Dress for tonight, skirt for tomorrow and pants for Sunday all ironed
  • Nap taken so I won’t be snarly tonight
  • Beer is in the fridge, some in the freezer for the boys
  • Litter box cleaned
  • Dishes done
  • Hair mostly defrizzed
  • Makeup done (did something different that actually looks good!)
  • Extra batteries charged for the camera
  • Beer in hand.

All I have left to do is actually get dressed. I’m waiting so I don’t get all wrinkled. I’m actually quite proud of myself.
