Just put the pillow on top of the hooker

July 9th, 2007

Apparently I woke up Gary last night talking in my sleep and this was what I said.  I have no idea what I was dreaming about but what can I say…I have crazy dreams and really that makes a great subject line ;)

Today marks the first day of our vacation.  So far I have the following planned today in preparation for our trip to Montreal on Wednesday to Saturday:

  • A little bit of work
  • A lot of pictures to take off of my camera
  • A lot of wash to finish up
  • Food to prepare for Pandora for when my sisters watch her (She’s on a RAW food diet now)
  • Go and see the Transformers tonight
  • Find someone to take care of Pan

While we’re in Montreal, we have plans to see some movies at the FanTasia  film festival and do  a lot of wandering.  I have some spots picked out for where we want to go but if anyone else has any suggestions, let me have them!

Blue October Pictures

July 2nd, 2007

Well, I finally got off my ass and cropped the Blue October pictures I took when Terra and I went to go and see Blue October at the Opera House in January this year. Most of them are pretty blurry but still decent considering how far back we were from the stage. I have to say, this was probably one of the best concerts I’ve ever been too. The energy the band gave off was simply amazing and the fact that they actually respected their fans was obvious. It also helps that I have a wee bit of a crush on Justin Furstenfeld. What’s a girl to do, especially when he looks a bit like her own handsome man?

Anyway, here are some of my favourites. You can check out the whole album here: Blue October - The Kool Haus, Toronto, January 30th, 2007.

10 things that are going to rock this summer

June 27th, 2007

I normally am not a big summer girl.  I don’t like to sweat and I’m so pale that I often glow in the summer nights when surrounded by tanned appendages.  This year, however, I am going to start it off on a high note listing the things that are going to make this summer kick ass.

  1. The new portable air conditioner we have for the living room.  A usable living room this summer! Although I think I little part of me will miss the 8 fans blowing hot air on us while we spray one another with warm water from cheap spray bottles.
  2. Zip.ca and their endless supply of TV shows that I always wanted to watch but never did.  It’s great to have something to do when it’s too hot outside to even move and we don’t have cable.
  3. Cute summer dresses.  Light, and airy.  No pants for this girl!
  4. Vacation to Montreal for the Fantasia Film Festival.  I’m hoping for a perfect balance of hanging out with the Rue Crew and spending time alone with the man of my dreams.
  5. Walking Pandora through High Park.
  6. The Festival of Fear, specifically the parties.  It’s a chance to see people I adore but don’t get to see often…you know who you are.
  7. Strawberry Margaritas.  I only drink these in the summer and man, they are worth the 9 month wait.
  8. Working at the office. Seriously, my office rocks, the people are awesome and summer time means impromptu drinks (see #7) and lunches on patios.
  9. Going to Center Island for a picnic.  I might even bring Pandora.
  10. I will succeed in my quest to find the perfect sandals that will fit my wide feet, are stylish and are comfortable.  So far I’ve only found shoes that fit one or two of the above criteria.

So, what do you have planned for your summer?

Wow…I needed this

June 20th, 2007

I’m really not happy today. Sometimes I’m way too sensitive to what other people are going through for my own good. So, when I came across this little gem while reading Meg Fowler’s blog in my RSS feed, it was enough to make me smile.

Of course I had to share.

Zombie Game!

June 13th, 2007

The Last StandI’m not sure if this made the rounds yet or not but I just came across this zombie game called “The Last Stand” by Chris “Con” Condon over at Kongregate.

I warn you, don’t click on this link unless you’re willing to sacrifice at least an hour killing zombies.

Reason #234 as to why I love my work

June 12th, 2007

Let me set the scene for you.

A coworker comes over to my desk to discuss some development work on Project A.  I should be working on Project A, but got sidetracked with Project B.  The following conversation ensues.

Me: I’m glad you stopped by, I should be working on Project A.
Coworker: Oh that’s OK.
Me: No really, I should be working on Project A but you know … *snort* …
……
Me: Wow, I totally snorted just now.
Coworker: Oh, that’s OK too.

Photo Crazy

June 12th, 2007

I have a very large amount of photos sitting on my hard drive waiting, actually demanding, to be cropped and processed so that I can post them on my site/facebook/myspace (but not flickr)!  I don’t do flickr.

I have some great photos of Blue October when Terra and I went to see them months ago and I also have some kick ass shots of the Nekromantix from their recent show here in Toronto.  Not to mention the hundreds of photos of friends and small get togethers that are just sitting around collecting dust on my computer.

I really need to get my act together, process these photos, get them printed and start putting together some photo albums.  I don’t think I’ll ever get as far as scrap booking because let’s face it, that takes too much commitment.  Besides, all those stickers and crazy scissors?  That’s just an accident waiting to happen.

All of these pictures, however, have made me realize how I didn’t take any photos when I lived in Colorado (not including the crappy webcam pictures I took).  Colorado was the most scenic place I ever lived in my adult life but all the photos I have consist of the day we got Pandora and the week before I left.  Three years of my life remained undocumented.   I could say that it was because digital cameras were just starting to gain popularity but if we’re going to be honest here, it’s because it was one of the most lonely times of my life.   I didn’t want to take pictures of our undecorated apartment, my expanding waistline or my forced smile.

If I could go back in time I would want to give that lost but desperately brave 25 year old woman a huge hug and whisper to her that her life is going to be amazing in just 5 years.  The one thing I learned in Colorado was to appreciate your blessings as they are happening to you.  To acknowledge the beauty of your life today, not tomorrow.  This is why every night before I fall asleep, I think of how lucky I am to have my friends, family and Gary and silently thank them for making my life so full of laughter and joy.

This weekend rocked

June 10th, 2007

I have to say that this weekend has been one of the best weekends I’ve had in a very long time. Saturday morning I woke up early in order to get ready to meet…wait for it…Clive Barker! He was in Toronto to give a speech at Stephen King’s lifetime achievement award ceremony in Canada on Friday night. He decided to drop by the Rue Morgue House of Horrors Saturday morning and, because I’m a lucky girl, I got a chance to meet him.

Unfortunately we were not able to spend a lot of time with him since most of it was taken up to do some TV interviews but when he was done he was gracious enough to not only sign my first edition copy of The Thief of Always but to also draw a sketch on the title page. Below are some of the pictures Gary and I took of his visit.

A lot more happened after the Clive Barker signing, including a wicked birthday party and a great afternoon at a friend’s house that resulted in me with straight hair. It’s very strange having straight hair even if it is just for a day. I promise that I’ll be posting more pictures about later but right now I need to hit the sack. Lots of laughter, sun and good friends has completely exhausted me.

Do you remember MASH?

June 7th, 2007

Playing MASH over at http://www.mashgame.comNot the the TV series but the game? You take a piece of paper and you list people, cars, colours, number of cities, and careers in sets of 5. Throw in your favourite number and the letters M(ansion) A(partment) S(hack) H(ouse) and you have all the tools you need in order to accurately predict your future. Who needs a crystal ball when you have a dull pencil and a scrap of paper?

Well if you want to relive your old memories and look in to the future you should check out http://www.mashgame.com. I know that the site is old and you may have already come across it, but man it’s fun.

I do have some concerns, however, after predicting my future:

  • Is my apartment with Gary going to be big enough to fit 8 kids?
  • Where on earth will I park my black spaceship?
  • Is there a huge vampire population on Thundera?
